Winter 2022 Kids/Youth Registration

Aikido is an excellent martial art for children and teens. It teaches awareness and self-defense but is non-aggressive in both philosophy and practice, working to protect not only the defender but also the attacker.

Instead of competing, students work together to promote each others learning and development. They learn cooperation, concentration and self-discipline as well as respect for themselves and others.

Aikido improves fitness developing increased stamina, flexibility, coordination and strength. It promotes physical literacy while at the same time developing a better understanding of how to defuse conflict both emotionally and physically.

Child and youth classes in our dojo focus on the fundamentals of aikido: stance, body movement, and situational and spatial awareness. Students take turns being nage (defender) and uke (attacker). In Aikido the defender always wins, using uke’s momentum and balance to neutralize the attack, with uke usually ending up on the ground. We spend a lot of time learning ukemi (how to safely fall and get back up again) with the falls range from basic to acrobatic.

Children/Youth classes (ages 8-15) teach the basics but also focus on fun, including Aikido-themed games in every class. We have one class per week: Mondays 4:45-5:45pm. Some more experienced teens also help out with the children’s classes.

The registration for our Winter 2022 is open and we are looking for new students.

The first class will be on Monday January 10th at 4:45pm.

Please send us an email to if you want to register your child.

You can check our Children and Youth Program page for information.
